Facebook Advertising! Why Market Your Business on Facebook?

The time has come to drop the practice of funding Google, and their self righteous attitude, and consider an advertising alternative using the second most visited website online.  Of course, I am referring to Facebook Advertising.  Google has lately been catering to corporate brand advertising and local business marketing, and leaving online marketers in the dust. Even though Google’s income was BUILT on the backs on internet marketing.

Facebook on the other hand, is happily allowing advertisers to reach their massive audience with relevant advertising for LESS Cost Per Click, which works beautifully with their LOW Cost Per Impression platform.  In fact, you can choose between strictly using CPC, or a combination of CPC and CPM (cost per thousands impressions).  The latter usually results in a lower Cost Per Click.

According to Alexa, Facebook traffic is exploding and Google is worried.  And it’s not only in North America.  If you look at the stats for any country, as recorded by Alexa in their individual country stats, Facebook is ahead of YouTube by a long shot.    A little known fact:  While 1 in 5 people have profiles on Facebook in the United States, an unparalleled 1 in 3 Canadians are using Facebook on a daily basis.

Facebook Advertising is Targeted Traffic!

I personally DO NOT have an active Facebook profile.  By that I mean…  no one knows about my personal profile.  I don’t seek out friends.  And my closest acquaintances know I use Facebook only for business purposes (Facebook Pages).

The reason why I even have a personal profile is quite simple.  It is so I can be a Facebook Developer.  This allows me to put fan page widgets on my various niche sites.  These fan pages point back to my Facebook Pages (different than a personal profile) and generates a buzz on my website and on Facebook.

So I am not talking about Social Marketing.  I only use Facebook as a means to draw traffic, just like I would on Google Adwords.   Please allow me to elaborate on this traffic technique using Facebook Pages, and then I will talk about basic Facebook advertising where you do not need a Facebook Page or a profile.

You do not need to use your Facebook Page to advertise your website.  You simply need a Facebook Advertising Account.  From there, you can create an ad in minutes and drive traffic directly to your website.  Whether you try to get fans to your business fan page, or have people click through directly to your website, all of your ads can be targeted to specific niche groups.

I have set up a Facebook Page and promoted it to targeted categories asking people to simply “Become a Fan”.  The “click through rate” for a Fan Page is high, because people only need to click your ad and join the page.  Other people continue to join your fan page even after you stop advertising because they find you through their friends.   In turn, I can put a Facebook Widget on my website which simply tells people on my website that I have a fan page on Facebook.  The widget features thumbnails of some of my fans.  It looks very live and interactive.

Once you have enough fans, Facebook allows you to change your url to a specific url which ranks better in Google.  For example, instead of www.facebook.com/my-business/32425264 (just as an example) you can change your facebook url to www.facebook.com/mybusiness.   There is no charge for this.  You only need to have a certain number of fans.

The second way to advertise on Facebook is to create an ad that points directly to your website.  It is also highly targeted traffic and people who click your ad go directly to your site.  As mentioned, it is cheaper than Google and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT QUALITY SCORE.  Yes, I was shouting there.

Why Move from Google to Facebook Ads?

Did you know that Google has canceled 15,000 Adwords accounts in the last few months.  Most of these Adwords accounts were online marketers attempting to drive traffic to their landing pages.

I am sure some of these websites were “scammer and spammer” types of online marketers, but if you have ever tried to use Google to promote your business, you know as well as I do that they hate focused landing pages.  Google is hypercritical.  They in fact have a minimalistic look on their home page, but try promoting a focused product to a clean looking landing page, and your Cost Per Click goes through the roof.

Try to tweak your different campaigns of this nature and eventually Google will suspend your account.  They will not even tell you they have done it.  You will simply log in one day and notice that your impressions have disappeared your click through rate has gone to ZERO!  No matter how legitimate your product is,  Google considers you to be the SCUM of the earth if you try to promote a product or a simply e-book download with a goal of getting people to sign up to your mailing list.

While Facebook does discourage “get rich quick” schemes in their advertising, and so they should, they do not care about quality score for legitimate sites.  They only care that your site  is a true representation of advertisement.  Once an ad is approved, pausing and restarting an ad in your Facebook advertiser account is instant.

Google’s motto has always been to “Do No Evil”!  But that does not mean they will refrain from “stabbing you in the back” after you’ve paid them thousands of dollars.  There IS a better way to market your business.  Facebook is gaining on Google traffic by the day. It’s been said that if you Live by Google, you DIE by Google.  I for one, refuse to put up with it any longer.
